According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among older Americans, falls are the number one cause of injuries and death from injury. Seniors have a greater risk of falls, and with that comes an increased risk of injuries, hospitalizations, and complications due to falls. Foot pain is not a normal consequence of getting older. Healthy feet and ankles contribute to a full and active lifestyle, but they can also help reduce a senior’s risk for dangerous and deadly falls. Since September is National Fall Prevention Month, we wanted to pass along some important information from The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons on how you can lower your risk of falls.
By following these tips, you may be able to reduce your risk of a life-altering slip or fall. Keeping your feet healthy can improve your balance, coordination, and stability. If you are experiencing any foot or ankle pain, contact Dr. Kylin Kovac, DPM, FACFAS, or Dr. Jed Erickson,DPM at Idaho Foot and & Ankle Center.
